Watery Wildlife at Lackford Lakes

A summer of school visits at SWT Lackford Lakes.

This summer, years 1 and 2 from Risby CEVC Primary School have taken trips to SWT Lackford Lakes to learn about the wildlife there. In all, 60 children and 13 adults from the school were able to visit the site, take part in pond dipping and identification of what they found and  even take a look at different wildlife poos!

Here’s some feedback from one of the teachers:

“It was interesting to see how learning can be taken out of the classroom for a long period. Also not just having a check list for children to tick off something they have seen, but extending their learning by having a variety of similar objects and getting the children to work out which item to tick off  their checklist. I.e. finding poo and working out from which animal it may have come from. Or finding footprints and working out which animal made the print. However, the overall highlight was seeing how excited and engaged the children were with all the learning. I believe it got the children thinking more about our environment around them. That a grassy area isn’t just grass but a home to lots of animals.”
