Runic Objects on Display at West Stow

Evidence of an important Saxon settlement in the Brecks now available to see at West Stow Country Park.

In 1978, a metal detecorist found an ancient gold plaque at Staunch Meadow, Brandon. This led to excavations of the site between 1980 and 1988 and it was established as the site of an important middle Saxon settlement dating to the 7th-9th century AD. During the excavations several runic objects and writing implements were recovered which demonstrate the high status and monastic importance of the settlement. Now, as a result of funding under this project, these objects are now on display until the 17th of December at West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village.
