New Interpretation Panels Across the Brecks!

Six display panels have been installed around the Brecks to celebrate and tell the story of the rivers at each location – recreation history, trade and industry, ecology and more.

If you have recently wandered beside the river in Thetford, Brandon, Mildenhall or Honington and Sapiston, or perhaps explored Cavenham Heath, you may have come across one of our new interpretation panels!

These wonderful boards are the culmination of years of volunteers on BFER projects gathering stories from local people, researching the history of the rivers in the Brecks and building relationships with local councils and landowners. Each board immerses readers in the fascinating and always colourful history of the river and the landscape and people around it. You can also learn a little more about historical recreation in the rivers and the wildlife you might spot.

Here is an overview of all the board locations:

With thanks to Natural England,  the River Lark Catchment Partnership, the Environment Agency, Wild Suffolk Swimmers, Brandon Town Council, Thetford Town Council, Bush Adventures, Honington & Sapiston Parish Council, Brandon Remembrance Playing Fields, Mildenhall Cricket Club, Mildenhall Cycling Club, and to local people, groups and museums who let us use their images and stories.

And the most enormous thanks to the tireless and enthusiastic Imogen Radford, without whom, these boards would never have materialised!
