New Funding for Wellbeing

Running and paddleboarding activities for wellbeing in Brandon.

Thanks to a new pot of funding, we ran a new series of events in Brandon in April 2026 focused on wellbeing.

One bright and hazy Monday morning, 20 people gathered beside the Little Ouse river for a relaxed, social run with Run Breckland. Their route followed the nine stiles traditional “beating the bounds” route, along sandy tracks and across tree-fringed fields. Six kilometres later, the runners enjoyed a riverside coffee and cake to the sound of birdsong and the water through the sluice, before going on with their days.

If you would like to walk, or run the Nine Stiles “Beating the Bounds” route – you can find a trail map here: Nine Stiles Trail Map.

‘Thank you everyone, it was a truly lovely morning.’

‘Thanks all, a fun way to run the Easter calories off, only to put them all back on again with the awesome cake at the finish.’

A new crowd gathered by the river on Saturday, some nervous, some excited. In small groups they were each led by Sarah from Bush Adventures on a little trip downstream, for many of them, their first ever time on a paddleboard.

“It made a lovely start to the weekend. The sun was shining, it was easy to get to, it was a very picturesque spot, the tuition and equipment was good and we saw a kingfisher!”

“I have bought a paddleboard but not used it. I hope to take the kids out on it after today. I’m excited.”

“I have been meaning to access the river here, but was unsure about parking. I’m glad my son and I joined the event as it made me go and explore. We both enjoyed the free lesson as I can’t afford treats at the moment.

We will definitely go back to the river here and explore more and read the info boards.”

Thanks to the funding, we were able to provide these opportunities free of charge. Working with Brandon Town Council, the Brecks LP team was awarded the funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund through West Suffolk Council.
