Museum Embraces Pests for their InfoPoint

Young people have created a new trail at Ancient House Museum all about the pests trying to eat exhibits!

This Spring, Ancient House Museum in Thetford enlisted a group of young people to make a special tour for their InfoPoint. The theme was pests, and the group was six 13-25 year-olds, who were doing work experience to get real-life experience of carrying out a heritage project.

That is where InfoPoint came in. The group spent three Saturdays in Thetford. First, they met a pest management expert at Ancient House and explored how the museum deals with the various insects that try to eat its collections. They filmed and wrote the content for their InfoPoint tour.

Next, they met at Thetford library and put the tour together, including (very importantly) photoshopping a tiny insect, called a silverfish, onto a dinosaur, because silverfish predate the dinosaurs! Finally, they launched the tour at a special event for Earth Day at the Museum.

Many skills were learned and now Ancient House has another tour to add to its ever-expanding InfoPoint!
