Festive Photography – Winner Announced!

The shortlist of the 2025 Festive Photography Competition – capturing the Brecks in its winter coat.

We had a huge number of entries for this year’s festive photography competition. Thank you all for getting out there, capturing the Brecks as it dons its winter coat, and sending us your best images – we had such a range, from frosty remembrance wreaths to crisp landscapes, magical wildlife moments to our towns preparing for festivities.

It was tough choosing a winner but, after much deliberation, here it is:

Congratulations, Ray Thompson!

We loved the winter-walks vibe of the picture, as well as its depth, and the combination of the iconic Brecks pine line with the agriculture by which so much of the landscape is formed. This pine line particularly also speaks to the heritage of the Brecks because it is still in the short, more hedge-like form in which they were originally kept for wind-break purposes.

We also have three fabulous runners-up:

Carl Palmer for his beautiful image of Barnham Cross Common, with its big skies and heath-like grassland.

Nick Moran for capturing a wonderful picture of the usually shy bearded tit which occasionally visits the Nunnery Lakes reserve.

Neil James for his magical drone footage of Thetford’s market square when the Christmas lights were switched on this year.

A special mention, also, to Alison Barnes for this slightly different angle on the season, taken at St Peter’s Church in Brandon.

We will be featuring all four shortlisted images as our Facebook cover photo over December and into the new year and we also have a wonderful range of prizes, thanks to our sponsors: Grow Indoor Plants, Roys of Thetford, the Lime Kiln Kitchen at the Thetford Garden Centre and Ancient House Museum.
