Feelgood Suffolk Wellbeing Walk: Brandon Leisure & Health Hub.

15 January 2024

“I am a volunteer walk leader with Feelgood Suffolk; an organisation covering walking groups throughout Suffolk. Our group meets at Brandon Leisure & Health Hub in Church Road every Monday morning at 9.30am. We enjoy sociable leisurely walks, usually up to three miles in length and lasting around an hour, before heading back for free tea and coffee. Today we went down to Brandon Staunch and stopped at the riverside to take in the sights and sounds of our lovely natural environment.

Crossing over the Staunch, and brrr! Was it chilly this morning! I had to keep taking my gloves off to take the photos and the cold really bit my fingers.

The water level has dropped this week. Last week the water had swelled the banks and even covered a normally accessible footpath.

Doing our best to avoid icy patches.

We spotted a couple of donkeys out for their morning constitutional.

Whilst on our return journey we passed the former Georgian workhouse, which was converted into a school in 1843, and is now a private residence.

And we couldn’t help noticing the duck pond in Manor Road was frozen over.

All in all, a lovely sunny walk (although the temperature could have done with being a few degrees higher!). But anyway, we shouldn’t really complain; at least it wasn’t raining!”

About Us

“We are friendly group with a focus on mental wellbeing, gentle outdoor exercise and togetherness. There is nothing to pay and no need to book. As always, everyone is welcome. If you do come along make sure you wear suitable footwear. We often walk on muddy footpaths although we endeavour to keep to drier areas, especially after rainfall.” Wendy

The Brandon Abbeycroft Leisure Centre wellbeing walks are leisurely town walks, incorporating grades 1 (easier) and 3 (longer) walks between 30-90 minutes. The longer route can cover some uneven ground. Free parking is available at the Leisure Centre. Walks take place on Monday mornings from 9.30am, meeting in the Brandon Abbeycroft Leisure Centre reception. There is no need to pre book (If attending your first walk you will be required to complete a registration form before the walk). Following each walk, there is opportunity to stay for a social cuppa and chat in the café.
