Starting this spring, Ancient House Museum are running various Viking jewellery making sessions aimed at young people ages 11 – 19 year olds, along with some adult taster sessions.
Whilst part of the Museums Art Fund project, these workshops are inspired by the Viking jewellery on display in the ‘Vikings History On Your Doorstep’ Exhibition which is funded by BFER. The exhibition has been made into a 360 degree digital exhibition which you can take a look at here.
The first session, held on April 14th, saw 27 young people attend along with an expert tutor. Each participant spent 2 hours designing and making their own piece of jewellery to take home. This first session proved popular and resulted in multiple requests from adults to run another, which went ahead in May for adults only.
Comments from participants:
“We loved it! Great experience.”
“The tutor was very friendly and helped support my son who has learning needs.”
“My children loved it. Can we have one for over 50s please?!”
“We are keen to carry on with this craft at home. We’re off to buy some tools and wire.”
