In October 2022, 32 local volunteers led by a small team from Cotswold Archaeology (Suffolk Office) took part in several days of fieldwalking and surface finds collection at Lackford. Funds included pottery sherds of later prehistoric (Bronze and Iron Age), Roman, Later Anglo-Saxon and medieval date, as well as flint flakes and heat-altered stone indicating prehistoric activity. Most notably however, was that volunteers discovered two silver coins, one quite rare. You can read all the details and see pictures of the finds on the Heritage Suffolk website: Fieldwalking at Lackford

This survey was part of an archaeological project co-ordinated by Suffolk County Council Archaeological Service, with Cotswold Archaeology, for the Brecks Fen Edge and Rivers Landscape Partnership Scheme funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Our thanks go to all the volunteers for their hard work recovering and processing the finds and to the Suffolk Wildlife Trust for allowing access to their land and facilities for this survey.
