Christmas Card Competition Shortlist

Throughout November we ran a photography competition asking for your best Breckland photographs for our Christmas card and you really rose to the occasion.

Throughout November we ran a photography competition asking for your best Breckland photographs for our Christmas card and you really rose to the occasion. With around 50 entries to judge, we brewed the coffee, pulled out our emergency Christmas tree and readied ourselves for discussion.

Here is our shortlist with judges’ comments:

Christine Newton – between Brandon and Santon Downham.

The judges really loved the sun-rays breaking through the line of pine in this photograph. The frosty grass and blue sky gave a nice balance and a bright, wintery feel.

Jean Betts – Brandon

The colour palette of this photograph is really beautiful, evoking a water-colour style. The judges loved the reflections in the water and the beautifully frosted trees.

Phil Waring – Thetford Spring Walk

This image immediately made the judges think of wintery walks. The pathway really carries the eye through the photograph and the texture of the snowy branches is lovely.

Trudie Mann – Lakenheath Warren

This is a very Breckland scene with the heath and the pine and the judges really loved the framing. The blue of the sky contrasts really nicely with the frost on the grass.

Trudie Mann – Sunrise off Bury Road Brandon

The judges really loved the layers of frosted bracken, glowing sunrise and tree canopy in this photograph. A stunning combination of colours.

We will announce the winner, and send them their BFER goodybag, next week.

Thank you to you all for your entries, the quality was really high and it was a joy to judge. We had such a good time we’ve decided to make this a seasonal competition so, if you missed out this time, don’t put your camera down just yet, we’ll run another competition in Spring.
