Brecks Ambassadors Assemble

The start of a new volunteer network to strengthen volunteering in the Brecks.

The first meeting of the Brecks Ambassadors volunteer-network took place in January 2026. Comprising of fifteen people volunteering in the community, across a range of groups and activities from environmental, to heritage to social and wellbeing groups, the network aims to support anyone in a community-facing voluntary position across the Brecks, with an opportunity to connect with other volunteers, share best practice and learn about this amazing region and the excellent work being done in it.

Other than eating cake and mini cheddars and drinking tea, the network brought a lot of energy and passion to their first discussions – deciding what they would like to spend the year in the network doing. We are now putting together the programme of events and workshops discussed and, at the end of the year, will have another get-together to review how far we’ve come and how equipped the volunteers in the network feel to be ambassadors for the Brecks.

See the following for a taster of the kind of thing the network will be doing this year:

Site Visits

Group trips to different heritage and conservation sites in the Brecks, to learn how they manage their site, volunteers, and events/project work they deliver. Some of these may involve an exchange of a volunteering activity for a guided tour or talk.

Knowledge Exchange

The members of the group will take it in turns to host the others on one of their usual community group meet-ups or during their usual volunteering activity. This will not only strengthen the connections between groups and individuals working in the communities in the Brecks, but also build everyone’s knowledge of the variety and opportunities the area has to offer.

Training

Workshops with people who excel in what they do, to help the group strengthen their skills.

An Online Forum

We will be starting an online forum especially for volunteers in the Brecks. This will be a place to share best practice, find support solving difficulties, recruit for extra support where needed, share funding opportunities and collaborate on projects.

If you volunteer in the Brecks, are part of a community group, or run a group, and would like to be part of the Brecks Ambassadors network, it’s not too late! Get in touch with us at brecks@suffolk.gov.uk or by calling 01473 265600.
