Vikings of the Brecks: Thetford Heritage Weekend
Be among the first to see a brand new open air play, Vikings of the Brecks, for its first public performance. The play, developed for BFER by theatre company Magic Floor Productions, showcases the glorious, gruesome, and engrossing history of Vikings in the Brecks.
According to records in the Anglo Saxon Chronicle, Vikings invaded East Anglia in AD865. They arrived in what was referred to as the Viking Great Army, or Great Heathen Army. The invading army fought a series of campaigns against Anglo Saxon kingdoms. During this time, the force overwintered in the heart of the Brecks in the town of Thetford. Thetford became the sixth largest town in the country at the time.
Journey back in time though a witty performance to discover what the Brecks was like under Viking occupation, from the glorious to the gruesome. Guided by Vikings Odger and Ulf, you will meet a cast of Vikings and Saxons, take part in Viking invasions, and vote for your favourite ruler in an interactive gameshow, The Plunder Games.
When: Saturday 17th June
Time: 5pm-6pm
Free of charge to attend, with thanks to the support of the National Lottery Heritage Fund
Pre-booking not required
This performance will take place as part of Thetford Heritage Weekend. Follow Thetford Town Events on Facebook for further information about the Heritage Weekend.
