IDing Amphibians: online training
Learn about amphibians and how to get involved with a National ‘Spawn Survey’ at this informal online training session.
Join BFER and the Freshwater Habitats Trust for an evening online training event to learn how to identify amphibians.
From now until the end of May, the Freshwater Habitats Trust will be running a survey to collect important data on the location of ponds with breeding frogs and toads. They are seeking volunteers to take part, by looking for frogs and toad spawn, and recording the presence of tadpoles, and adult amphibians.
Do you have a pond near you? Take a closer look to see if there is evidence of breeding frogs and toads. Whether in a local park, your back garden, or something you spot while out on a walk, you can assist with a National Spawn Survey by joining in to recording your findings.
In 2022, BFER and the Freshwater Habitats Trust led a project called Citizen Science: Testing the Water. Volunteers collected water samples from Brecks wide freshwater bodies, which were E-DNA tested. The information collected provided an overview of species that inhabit our Brecks waterways. This year, the National Spawn Survey will allow this data to grow, helping to paint a detailed picture of the amphibians that inhabit the Brecks.
