Accessible Reserve Guided Tour
On this special event join RSPB Lakenheath Fen Nature Reserve as they celebrate the improvement of accessibility across the site.
Over recent years, Lakenheath Fen Nature Reserve has made improvements to the reserve’s trails to improve accessibility for less physically-able visitors. This work has been carried out through the Brecks Fen Edge and Rivers Landscape Partnership Scheme, with thanks to the support of the National Lottery Heritage Fund. This has included firm and level resurfacing of the main track through the reserve, and much improved access to Joist Fen Viewpoint via a shallow, firm and wide slope up to the viewpoint.
Some visitors may remember the old steep bank and stile at New Fen. This has now been overhauled with a much shallower ramp suitable for wheelchairs. If guests on this event are able, the tour will include a visit to this ramp to enjoy its vantage point over the river.
This event is designed to be more accessible than the usual reserve tours. It will be suitable for most powered wheelchairs, as well as manual ones if the guest has someone able to push them for an approximate distance of two miles.
