Here is everything you need to know:
Sunday 23rd August
The Orchard in Brandon
12.30pm: Gather for the Nine Stiles Walk (walk starts at 1pm)
Join Town Keeper Ali Barnes for this guided tour of Suffolk’s ancient ‘Beating of the Bounds’ route around the town of Brandon.
The centuries old tradition of ‘Beating the Bounds’ relates to the practice of beating local landmarks with branches to remind local people of parish boundaries. People would carry slender willow branches and swat landmarks that separated the parishes. As they walked, they sang songs, carried flags, told stories, and created memories, gathering on the village green at the end of the walk for a celebration. In the spirit of keeping this tradition alive, this special guided walk to mark the closing of the Brecks Outdoor Festival will end with a special Closing Ceremony and Open Mic inviting all Brecks creatives from writers, to musicians to actors to contribute.
2.30pm: Closing Ceremony and Brecks Creatives Open Mic with house band Brandon Open Music Group
Do you have something creative to share about your connection with the Brecks?
We’re inviting all Brecks creatives from writers to musicians to actors to contribute. Come and share something, or just come to watch!
Join us in the orchard and bring something creative to tell us:
- What connects you to where you live?
- Why are you here? What’s special about the Brecks to you and what would you like to share about it with others?
- Or tell us the story of a significant moment in the Brecks.
Poetry, fiction, songs, anecdotes – this is an open mic for us all, the people of the Brecks, whichever part of it is home. Bring something to share for others to hear your voice.
We hope you’ll join us to close the Brecks Outdoor Festival 2026 with a creative and exciting celebration!
